Mobile Welfare Unit Health and Safety Policy
This policy sets out the standards Kwof follows to protect staff, customers, contractors, and site visitors during hire, delivery, servicing, and collection activities.
Policy Statement
Kwof is committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of its employees, customers, contractors, and any other persons affected by its activities.
The company recognises its responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated UK health and safety regulations.
Our objective is to provide safe equipment, safe systems of work, and a safe working environment. We aim to prevent accidents, injuries, and work-related ill health by identifying hazards and managing risks effectively.
Health and safety is an integral part of all company operations, including the delivery, installation, servicing, and collection of mobile welfare units.
Responsibilities
Company management is responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, providing safe equipment and systems of work, carrying out risk assessments where necessary, and providing suitable information, instruction, and training.
Management is also responsible for ensuring equipment is maintained and safe to use, investigating accidents or near misses, and promoting a strong health and safety culture across the business.
Employees and contractors must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others, use equipment safely and for its intended purpose, follow safety procedures, report hazards or unsafe conditions immediately, and cooperate with the company to maintain safe working practices.
Customers hiring welfare units must ensure the unit is used only for its intended welfare purpose, placed on stable and suitable ground, kept safely accessible, and not modified, altered, or misused.
Risk Assessment
The company carries out risk assessments for core activities including delivery and collection of welfare units, positioning and installation on site, servicing and maintenance activities, and waste handling and cleaning operations.
Identified hazards are controlled through appropriate procedures, training, and safe systems of work.
Safe Equipment
All welfare units, trailers, and associated equipment must be maintained in safe working condition, inspected regularly for damage or defects, repaired promptly if faults are identified, and checked before delivery to customers.
Any defective equipment will be removed from service until repairs are completed.
Transport and Site Safety
When delivering or collecting equipment, the company will assess site access and ground conditions where possible, ensure trailers and towing vehicles are roadworthy and compliant with regulations, use appropriate lifting or positioning methods, and follow safe procedures when unloading or installing units.
Where site conditions are unsafe, the company reserves the right to refuse delivery or installation.
Servicing and Maintenance
Servicing activities may include cleaning, refilling water tanks, emptying waste systems, and checking generators or electrical systems.
Staff carrying out servicing must use appropriate personal protective equipment, follow safe hygiene and waste handling procedures, and ensure equipment remains safe and operational after servicing.
Personal Protective Equipment
Where required, employees will be provided with appropriate PPE, which may include safety footwear, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and protective clothing for servicing tasks.
Employees must use PPE where required and maintain it in good condition.
Accident Reporting
All accidents, incidents, or near misses must be reported to company management as soon as possible.
Where required, incidents will be recorded and investigated to identify causes and prevent recurrence.
Training and Competence
Employees receive appropriate training and instruction to ensure they can carry out their duties safely.
Training may include safe towing and vehicle operation, manual handling techniques, safe servicing procedures, and hazard awareness.
Review of Policy
This health and safety policy will be reviewed periodically and updated where necessary to reflect changes in company operations, legislation, or best practice.
